13th Conference of Postgraduate Students and PhD Candidates of the Faculty of Philology,

National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

CALL FOR PAPERS

We are pleased to announce the 13th Conference of Postgraduate Students (Master’s level) and PhD Candidates of the Department of Philology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. This conference continues to provide young scholars from Greece and other countries with the opportunity to present their work to their peers and to discuss with them the modern trends in their respective academic fields.

The conference will be held in Athens on 5-9 October 2026. We strongly encourage young researchers to submit abstracts in one of the following scientific areas:

1. Classics:

a. Ancient Greek Philology

b. Latin Philology

c. Papyrology

2. Byzantine Philology

3. Modern Greek Philology

4. Linguistics

5. Folkloristics

In order to be accepted in the conference, those who wish to participate must be either enrolled and active in a postgraduate programme or to conduct their doctoral research. Proof of active studentship/candidateship (certified by the respective institution) must be provided along with the submission of the abstract. 13th Conference of Postgraduate Students and PhD Candidates Faculty of Philology of the University of Athens

All applications must fully comply with the following guidelines:

1. All contributions must present original, unpublished work in one of the scientific fields mentioned above. Contributions providing only an overview of the current bibliography will not be accepted.

2. In the case of group contributions, there is no maximum number of contributors. However, only up to two (2) participants can present each contribution to the conference.

3. All abstracts must be sent to the following e-mail address: 13thconference.phil.nkua@gmail.com

4. Along with the abstract, your e-mail must also include a recent certification of your academic status (Postgraduate Student or PhD candidate) as mentioned before, provided by your institution.

5. The abstract must not exceed 250 words (excluding references) and must be sent only in .docx / .doc format.

6. As a ‘subject’ of your e-mail, please state the scientific field to which your abstract belongs (e.g. Modern Greek Philology). Specifically for Classical Philology, please also state to which subfield – Ancient Greek or Latin Philology or Papyrology – your abstract belongs (e.g. Classical Philology: Ancient Greek).

7. The abstract must obligatorily include references (in the same document as the main text of the abstract). Any abstracts that do not include references will be automatically rejected.

8. The languages of the conference are Greek and English.

9. Each abstract must be sent in two copies, an eponymous one and an anonymous one.

10. Each abstract must comply with the guidelines below. Abstracts that fail to comply with these guidelines will be immediately rejected.

GUIDELINES FOR ABSTRACTS

1. FONT: 12pt Times New Roman (or any other Unicode font, if necessary).

2. LINE SPACING: 1,5.

3. ALIGNMENT: full justification.

• In the anonymous document, the title must be centered and in bold letters.
• The eponymous document must also include the following information, which should be in the upper left corner of the document, before the title.

1. Name and Surname

2. Institution

3. Status [e.g., Postgraduate student or PhD candidate]

4. Fellowship [if necessary]

5. e-mail

6. telephone number

We would like to inform you in advance that all abstracts will be reviewed by scientific committees that specialize in each of the five fields. The reviewing process will be doubly blind. The abstracts that do not follow the above guidelines will be rejected automatically.

In addition to oral presentations, participants may also opt for a poster presentation. Applicants should explicitly state their preference upon submitting their abstracts via email to: 13thconference.phil.nkua@gmail.com. Posters must adhere to A0 size specifications.

In this case, the following terms apply:

• Selecting a poster presentation precludes the option of an oral presentation.
• Participants bear full responsibility for the design, printing, and installation of their posters, in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Organizing Committee following abstract approval.
• All associated costs are to be met exclusively by the participant.

Further details regarding specifications will be provided upon acceptance of the abstract.
