Two fixed-term posts at the University of Edinburgh

1) Exhibition Curator

With generous support from the A. G. Leventis Foundation and in connection with the 12th A. G. Leventis Conference in Hellenic Studies in 2021, the School of History, Classics and Archaeology wishes to appoint a Postdoctoral (Curatorial) Fellow with research interests in Scottish Philhellenism of the early nineteenth century, Scottish-Greek connections, and/or the Late Enlightenment in Scotland. Additional expertise or interest in Greek or Eastern Mediterranean history of the early nineteenth century will constitute an advantage.

The appointee will play the leading role in organizing, and developing the narrative for, an exhibition in the University of Edinburgh that commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution and is provisionally entitled ‘Edina/Athena – 1821/2021:The Greek Revolution and Edinburgh as the “Modern Athens”. In addition to identifying suitable exhibits from collections within and without Edinburgh, the appointee’s main task will be to communicate the fascinating story these exhibits tell to an academic and lay audience via various media. The postholder will have access to curatorial assistance and academic advice from within and without the University. Experience in – or interest in, and the ability and willingness to learn very fast – exhibition organisation will be considered an asset.

This is a temporary part-time (17.5hrs per week) and is available for a fixed term period from August 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter until 31st December, 2021.
Salary is £33,797 – £40,322, per annum, pro rata.

2) Exhibition Registrar and Project Manager

The post holder will have overall responsibility for the project management and all registrarial activity for national, international and internal loans relating to an exhibition to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution, to be shown at the University of Edinburgh in November 2021.

You will lead on liaising with a range of private individuals, national and international cultural institutions; managing all transport logistics, security and insurance arrangements, producing and updating all facilities documentation, collections information and travel / transport itineraries including contracts as required, and making all arrangements for couriers including travel, accommodation and expenses, according to best practice and due diligence.

This is a part-time 0.5, fixed term contract Monday -Friday, for 17 months, ideally starting September 2020 – January 2022.

Salary Scale: £28,331 – £32,816 pro rata, per annum
